More about my hero... Kobe

By JEFF MEZYDLO

Kobe Bryant looks to keep his amazing scoring run going and lead the Los Angeles Lakers to a season-high fifth straight win Sunday night when they host the Golden State Warriors.

Bryant became the second player in league history to score 50 or more points in four consecutive games Friday, scoring 50 on 16-for-29 shooting and making all 16 of his free-throw attempts in a 111-105 win at New Orleans.

"We knew Kobe was going to have one of those nights," said New Orleans coach and former Laker Byron Scott. "He's just so good. He's such a competitor and he lives in the moment."

Only Wilt Chamberlain has more consecutive games of 50 or more, doing it in seven straight during the 1961-62 season. Elgin Baylor and Michael Jordan had done it three straight games.

"It's a tremendous honor for me to be in the same (category) with those guys," said Bryant, who's averaging an NBA-leading 30.8 points. "The coolest thing about it is this younger generation gets a chance to learn about Elgin Baylor, gets a chance to learn about Wilt Chamberlain and some of the things that they've accomplished, so that the legacy will continue to live on."

This week's quotables

On Kobe Bryant:

"He is by far one of the best athletes in the world, he just should have
picked a sport that does not involve teammates, such as tennis or golf!

-- Jason

Reaction: He did pick such a sport. If it weren't for KB, this gang of ragamuffins
couldn't beat the Roaring Rutabagas of Rancho High!

The Bet!

From a November 14th email:

"Given the season is early I suggest the following set of wagers................I pick Kings you pick Lakers for the following: The team that has a better record at ALL STAR break wins a 2005 NBA All Star Game piece of memorabilia (shirt, hat, ball, etc. you could be creative). The team with the best record at the end of season wins a bottle of wine. The team that goes furthest in the playoffs wins dinner (if one of our teams; yours does not make the playoffs a local newspaper stating Lakers fall short; Kings fall short; signed by the losing party and then perm plaque for display and presented at dinner would be appropriate.

We'll see you on Thursday.........are you bringing your reverse mortgage papers?

Take care,

Jason"

Any comments on this unfortunate and somewhat arrogant bet?
